Q & A: PARNEVU T-Tree No-Lye Conditioning Relaxer System
Q. What is the wait time for a touch-up or re-applying a relaxer?
A. When relaxing your hair you must avoid any overlapping of the chemical onto the previously relaxed hair. The previously relaxed hair doesn't need to be relaxed again. The relaxer must be applied to the new growth area; only the new growth needs to be processed. By reapplying relaxer on previously parts of your hair you are continually over processing these parts. It will defiantly lead to breakage. Also be aware that when re-perming your hair, different products have very different chemical formulations which may not be compatible with each other. If they are not compatible you could end up seriously damaging your hair and causing severe breakage.
Q. What will happen if I don't wash the relaxer completely out?
A. It's crucial that if you are relaxing your hair at home that you make sure that you remove all the relaxer from your hair. This means that to be on the safe side you must thoroughly shampoo your hair 3-4 times. If you run out of the shampoo included in the kit use your regular shampoo. If you leave small amounts of relaxer in your hair, the process of what's called residual chemical action will occur. What this means is those trace amounts left in your hair continue to work causing your hair to over-process and then break. We find that we can trace this to be a main reason of the breakage problems people come to see us with.
Q. I am currently wearing braids and can't wait to see how healthy and long my hair has gotten, and my hair is screaming for a relaxer. Is it safe to relax my hair after I remove my braids?
A. We do not recommend that you relax your hair in any way when you first come out of extensions or braids. We have found that both of these services inflict on the hair micro nicks and abrasions. When you relax your hair the relaxer works quicker at these areas or "hot spots" causing an uneven process and usually causing breakage that may not show up until months later. If you must have a straight style, you should try a deep reconstructing treatment and light press the first week. And If you must relax the same day you take out your extensions or braids you must (we don't recommend this) fill your hair, this is the method of using a process protector on your hair to fill in those hot spots so that you will get an even process and minimize breakage. We recommend that you wait at least one week to relax after removing braids.
Q. How often should I relax my hair?
A. We recommend that a relaxer retouch application be performed every 6-8 weeks. However, the frequency depends on the texture and growth rate of your hair.
Q. My hair is not course but I want to use a stronger strength is this a bad thing?
A. Yes! The selection of the appropriate relaxer strength is very important. There are three hair textures: fine, medium, and course. It is essential that the correct relaxer strength be selected. Please refer to the product's instruction sheet carefully to avoid hair breakage or hair loss. Or consult with a licensed professional.
Q. Can I use a different product that is not included a relaxer kit?
A. No, do not use any products that are not included in the relaxer system. The products are formulated to work systematically.
Q. How should I store my left over perm? My friend said to keep it in the freezer.
A. A relaxer should be stored at room temperature.
We do not recommend storing the mixed portion of the relaxer at all or putting it in the freezer.
Q. Should I apply to the entire relaxer on my hair every time I use a relaxer is?
A. No. Apply the relaxer to the new growth only. Please perform a strand test and refer to the recommended timing chart on the instruction sheet to avoid over processing and damage.
Q. Is it safe to use a permanent hair color on my relaxed hair?
A. Yes, however you should follow the manufacturer's instructions. First, the hair should be healthy. Second, we strongly recommend a "skin allergy test" be taken as directed on the instruction sheet. Finally, we recommend that you take a strand test before applying the hair color to your hair; then "preview" the color results.
Do not use permanent hair color on the same day that you relax your hair. When applying permanent hair color, you must wait 2-weeks before or after applying a relaxer. Semi-permanent hair color can be applied on the same day that a relaxer is applied.
